The Foothills
OpenK3moderately difficult

The Foothills is the more accessible line on Charmey’s via ferrata, but it still asks for sure footing, a good head for heights, and a solid level of fitness. The route is graded K3, with a varied line that mixes cliff sections, forest passages, and places to pause and take in the setting. Expect roughly 180 metres of ascent, about 600 metres of cable, and a total outing of around two to four hours, depending on pace and group size. The finish also includes a descent section, so the adventure continues after the top.
The route starts with a walk from the gondola arrival point, and the approach is short but not immediate. It is open in the warmer season, and conditions matter: no access in bad weather, and standard via ferrata equipment is required. For newcomers, it can work with supervision; for experienced climbers, it offers a lively and scenic half-day outing above the Fribourg countryside.
