Saxifrage
Saxifrage is the gentler opening section of the Mauvoisin via ferrata, set in the deep gorge of the Dranse below the dam. It is designed as an accessible introduction to fixed-rope routes, with closely spaced footholds, cable-secured sections and a rope bridge that adds just enough spice without making the outing feel excessive. The line stays relatively close to the river, so the atmosphere is more about the gorge itself than big alpine exposure. Access is straightforward from the Hôtel de Mauvoisin car park, with a short walk to the start. The route is typically available from early July to limit disturbance during bird nesting, and it is suitable for children from about eight years old when conditions and supervision are appropriate.
