Via Ferrata Diavolo is a short but memorable climb in the Schöllenen Gorge, where the route mixes rock, ladders and airy traverses with a strong sense of place. It is generally considered suitable for beginners, but it still feels steep at the start and exposed in sections, so a calm pace pays off. As you gain height, the gorge opens beneath you and the historic setting becomes part of the experience, with the roads and bridge below shrinking away. The route is only accessible in summer and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours in total, depending on the source and your speed. Expect a well-secured ferrata with wire rope, iron pins, artificial steps and ladders, plus a straightforward approach from Andermatt. A helmet, harness and via ferrata set are essential, and the descent returns you toward Andermatt via marked hiking paths or public transport options.
